I was always pursuing perfection, wanting the best for myself, my family and my life. So intentional doing everything just right, till one day, I woke up and realized I was actually paralyzed by my pursuit of perfection. Several reasons for the paralysis:
I felt like Humpty Dumpty and all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put me together again. That is, nothing in this world was able to fix the emptiness in my spirit, or the yearning in my heart.
They say that God’s address is at Wit’s End. All the twists and turns, all the detours in life brought me right to his doorstep. He said, “Welcome! It’s about time!” And then he invited me to get to know him - to plumb the depths of spiritual knowledge with him.
The invitation read like this:
Being the critical thinker that I am, I wanted to learn all about these great and mighty things; I was so hungry for this spiritual knowledge. I didn’t realize how biblically illiterate I was until I started doing small group bible studies with my friends.
Over the years, I have learned many, many great and mighty things about God; things that are so valuable to the love, joy, peace and contentment I now experience in this life. So much so that I love to share them with others.
So here I am. I am not a biblical scholar, or a legalist, or someone who pushes my faith onto others. I have just learned precious life lessons worth sharing. Today’s lesson: LOOKING UP IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN KEEPING UP.
